I am trying to start a home based business online – where is the best place to be advertising online?

I have signed up to create several sites to market my business and attract people to want to find out more – now I need to get those sites out on the internet to start getting “hits”, and I am not sure where to start. I can’t afford thousands of dollars to drive traffic to the site. Also, consider signing up for an affiliate program. These programs enable you to advertise on other’s sites (your affiliates) and once a sale is made to you, your affiliates & the program are paid a commission.
